Joan Bottorff, PhD, RN, FCAHS
Dr. Bottorff is Professor and Chair in Health Promotion and Cancer Prevention in the Faculty of Health and Social Development at the University of British Columbia Okanagan. She is Co-Director of the NEXUS research team, and Director of the Centre of Healthy Living and Chronic Disease Prevention. Dr. Bottorff is also an Affiliate Scientist with the BC Cancer Agency.
Her research program focuses on health promotion and health behaviour change in the context of cancer control. A major component of her research focuses on tobacco dependence and smoking cessation. She has projects involving partnerships with clinicians in hospitals and community settings. Her current research interests are tobacco reduction during pregnancy and postpartum, adolescent smoking, smoking cessation, gender and health, and healthcare interactions. Dr. Bottorff has taught qualitative research methods, and has supervised Master and Doctoral students in Nursing and Interdisciplinary studies.
