Robin Mason

Dr. Robin Mason is a Research Scientist at Women's College Hospital in the Violence and Health Research Program and is an Assistant Professor in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and in the Women's Mental Health Program, Department of Psychiatry, at the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on diverse women's experiences of violence and abuse, particularly intimate partner violence (IPV), and educating health care professionals about these issues. She has contributed to policies and guidelines at the national, provincial and local level and was appointed through an Order in Council to Ontario's Domestic Violence Advisory Council from 2007-2009. In addition, she has led (or co-led) a provincially-funded initiatives to develop curricula on IPV for paramedics, and another for physicians and other health care providers (www.DVeducation.ca). Dr. Mason is also a mentor in the Ontario College of Family Physician's newly established Women's Ontario Medical Mentoring Education Network (WOMMEN).

Currently, Dr. Mason is co-leading two different initiatives: a study of the ways in which past trauma affects women during the transition to motherhood; and, the development of a curriculum for frontline practitioners on the ways in which violence, substance use and mental health problems intersect in women's lives.
