Bernie Pauly

Bernie Pauly is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Victoria. Prior to this, she was a Canadian Institutes of Health (CIHR) postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Bioethics at Dalhousie University. She has experience as a nurse in practice, education and research in diverse areas of nursing practice including emergency departments, community health and inner city health care centres. She is active in local community initiatives to enhance the lives of those living with homelessness and drug use.

Currently, she is undertaking research and work related to harm reduction in nursing, substance use policy and enhancing equity in health and access to health care for those experiencing homelessness and drug use.

Other areas of research expertise and interest include ethical nursing practice, moral distress, ethical climates in health care, public health ethics and health policy ethics including application of social justice to health policy development.
