Research Interests
Shannon is coordinator/co-investigator of a participatory-action and interventional research project with substance-using women in survival sex work, in partnership with WISH Drop-In Centre Society in Vancouver. Through capacity building with a team of survival sex workers, the project aims to examine the health related harms and gaps in current HIV prevention and harm reduction policy and practice among survival sex workers. As well, the project has recently begun piloting a peer driven intervention model to increase access and sustainability of antiretroviral therapy and HIV care among women living with HIV. Shannon’s thesis work focuses on the social, structural and environmental barriers to HIV prevention and access to care among women in survival sex work.
